AUSTIN, Texas, March 2, 2023 – The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists recognized Hanger Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer Jim Campbell, PhD, CO, FAAOP as the recipient of the prestigious Titus Ferguson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Awarded yesterday during the Academy’s Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium in Nashville, Tennessee, the esteemed honor is the highest recognition for an outstanding academician whose accomplishments and contributions have made a significant impact on the growth and development of the orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) profession.

“Jim’s tenure at Hanger has brought tremendous milestones, from landmark research studies to unmatched clinical education and outcomes, that continue to push the envelope and move our industry forward,” shared Hanger Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Vinit Asar. “He is truly a pioneer in O&P, whose dedication has elevated not only our field, but the entire healthcare profession. This achievement is a testament to his incredible past and continued efforts in advancing the science and clinical care in our field.”

Campbell entered the O&P profession in 1976 when he attended Strathclyde University as an undergraduate. In 1988, he started his first position in the United States with the Cleveland Clinic, and in 1994 he returned to his alma mater, where he received his PhD in bioengineering. Campbell returned to the United States in 1997 to join Becker Orthopedic, and in 2015, he joined Hanger as the company’s first Chief Clinical Officer. He currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer where he leads the Department of Clinical and Scientific Affairs.

One of Campbell’s core achievements at Hanger has been the 2020 launch of the Hanger Institute for Clinical Research & Education, an assembly of experts and resources dedicated to advancing clinical practice and improving patient outcomes through leading-edge research, evidence-based care, and quality education. Campbell’s leadership efforts have resulted in more than 40 peer-reviewed studies and more than 10 federally funded research grants.

In addition to his role at Hanger, Campbell has served on the Board of Directors for the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association, as well as the American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists, where he received the Distinguished Practitioner Award in 2013.
