On September 15, 2001, then-15-year-old Cameron Clapp was struck by a train and instantly lost both legs above-the-knee and his right arm at the shoulder. Told by doctors he would never walk again, Cameron proved them wrong just five months after the accident by walking independently with two prosthetic legs. With determination and perseverance, he returned to his active lifestyle of downhill skiing and surfing, competed in adaptive sports, acted on TV shows and major motion pictures (HBO’s “Carnivàle,” “My Name is Earl,” “Workaholics” and “Stop Loss”), and traveled the country sharing his inspirational story with other amputees and medical professionals.
Now a Community Care Coordinator and Global Ambassador for Hanger, Cameron has made it his mission to empower others who may be facing the same uncertainty he once faced after traumatic limb loss. Cameron has been recognized with a Shining Star Award and the Mohamed Amin Award for Humanitarian Service, and is now completing a bachelor's in sociology and pursuing a master's in social work.
