MCKINNEY, Texas – May 9, 2022 – In celebration of Mother’s Day, ABC World News Tonight featured the extraordinary story of Hanger Clinic patient Callie Colwick. Colwick, who is 32 years old, is embarking on an adoption journey after suffering pregnancy complications in Dec. 2016 that nearly caused her to lose her life, and sadly resulted in the loss of her unborn son, the amputation of both her legs below the knee, and several years in the hospital recovering.
Ultimately, though Colwick has endured tragedy, her story is one of triumph. She has worked incredibly hard to regain her strength and learn to walk again on prosthetic legs, with support from her husband and high school sweetheart Kevin, seven-year-old daughter Kenzi Rae, and her care team at Hanger Clinic in Plano, Texas. From taking her first steps on prosthetic legs in April 2019 under the care of prosthetist Jason Reed, to attending Hanger Clinic’s EmpowerFest event with prosthetic resident Kendra Krupp in April 2022, Colwick’s resilience has inspired many in the limb loss and limb difference community and beyond.
